SIERRA SUMAQ RUMI

The Sumaq Rumi Mining Unit, which exploits zinc, was acquired in May 2019 from the company TRAFIGURA and is located in the district of San José de Quero, province of Concepción, Junín Region. This Unit has a long history, in which a large number of operators passed through, for which we had to carry out intense reconditioning and remediation work on the environmental liabilities generated by the previous activity, with the main objective of preserving water in quantity and quality for the environment.

In its first stage, our organization focused all its efforts and investment on the implementation of works dedicated exclusively to conditioning the operation, including the construction of a new crest channel to protect the non-contact water and divert it cleanly to the sources of natural water in the area. In the first stage, our company decided not to exploit until the conditions ensured total care for the environment. Currently we have managed to implement a series of improvements that allow us to operate with respect for nature and the environment that surrounds us.

Currently processing 500 TNs per day and developing a Mechanized Underground mining, under the Sub Level Caving Exploitation method. Our next projection is to grow to 1000 TNs per day and continue to increase.

Regarding Geology, the presence of the Azulcocha body stands out, related to the Cochas-Great Britain fault system, which fractured the Condorsinga limestone and the Goyllarisquizga sandstone, generating permeable areas that were reached by hydrothermal fluids, rich in zinc and manganese in solution, which precipitated and filled the permeable areas with zinc and manganese minerals. To the west, there is an area of veins and towards the west end there are intrusives in contact with limestone, which formed areas with the presence of skarn.

The mining is carried out in the subterranean Azulcocha area, for which there will be 2 methods in operation: SARC-type Long Drills and Sub Level Caving, both mechanized. The ore will be transported through the crossings at the extraction level to the coarse deposit of the concentrator plant, 1.4 km from the pits at Nv (-40) and 2 km from the pits at Level (+115). The sterile material will be recirculated as filler to the pits and the surplus is transported to the sterile material deposit. The loading of material will be carried out through a 6 yd3 scoop and the transport with 15 m3 capacity trucks.

The metallurgical process of Sierra Sumaq Rumi will consist of the flotation of minerals with contents of metallic lead sulphides, zinc from its deposits, after the comminution and grinding stages, it passes to the differential flotation process of Lead and Zinc, obtaining a product of lead-arsenic that due to their low values are derived to the tailings of the plant and the zinc product is derived to the thickening and filtering circuit where the final zinc concentrate is obtained, ready for dispatch and commercialization.
